They aren't just about taking your money

Believe it or not, I've only been to like five weddings in my life. And the first one wasn't til I was maybe 25 or 27, somewhere in there.

First it was Michelle's wedding. Then Penny. Then Mario. After that was Raul. JT's wedding was last year. And then this weekend, I'm going to a fall wedding in Portland for Moose who we can't let loose otherwise it's turning into the Hangover Part 87.

"What the hell does this have to do with taxes?" is a great question right now. And I'll get there, I promise, just stick with me.

A question I get all the time when I tell people... "are you gonna write off your trip?" It's a great question, it's a great thought. And then I have to let everyone down by saying, "Unfortunately no, this isn't a work trip. As much as I'd love to, this trip is personal."

And somehow, that shocks so many people haha. It shocks people that the tax guy aint cutting corners

So, let's bring this around to you. You probably have a weekend trip on the docket this fall, be it a wedding, a college football game, weekend at the lake, something like that. And before you ask, most likely it's a personal trip and not tax deductible.

I know, I know, you don't want me to burst your bubble. Too bad, I gotta tell you the truth :)

Yes, it's possible to turn your personal trips into legit tax deductible trips, it takes some work though. For now let's just say, don't believe every tax video you see on social media about writing off personal trips.

That's one thing JT and I take pride in... we only give it to you straight, even if it sucks to deliver or receive that info. And that's one thing JD did last year when we met her in person, she kept telling us how happy she was that we're honest with people, even if that means delivering tough tax info to clients.

JD only had nice things to say about us and our sincerity, so of course I'm gonna blast it around haha. Here's a clip about why honesty and integrity matter for your tax advisor. And remember, don't believe everything you hear on tax tik tok.
