Can I Write Off My Lunch?
If you could, how'd you like to write off every meal you eat? That would be dope, wouldn't it?
Well, sorry to break it to you.... you can't.
Everyone has to eat, whether that's for business or not so no, the IRS doesn't let you write off every meal you eat. And beyond that, many business meals are only 50% deductible anyways...well because.... you gotta eat anyways.
Now sure, catering for an event with clients is 100% deductible, buying cookies and treats for the office an employee's birthday, right there are many times when food and drinks are fully deductible. Again though when you think of "business meal" such as going to Red Robin for a burger and endless fries with your ops manager, it's probably only 50% deductible.
Of course, every dollar matters when it comes to taxes, just making sure you know that business meals ain't some uncovered gold mine of tax deductions. Right, don't go eat out just because tAxEs BrO
As JT said in a video not too too long ago... "I have to eat food regardless of business, I need that to live", plus he explained the right way to qualify and write off your business meals when you do go out https://www.youtube.com/shorts/uELPyflZDmk
